Paul Geraghty discuss that variants of the tale have been found all over the world, it even goes all the way back to the 16th century. In the early days this legend included horses and carriages in the modern they include cars. Some versions included mystery passengers jumping uninvited onto the backs of horses and clinging onto their befuddled riders. In somes cases they don't involved automobiles; the mysterious stranger would simply walk along beside someone else for part of a journey without saying a word. Making an awkward environment for a walker but after a couple of miles it disappears. In the other side according to Beardsley and Hankey a historical antecedent hasn't yet be found but it could be trace back to Europe, Greek, and Roman. Some reacher have found that this legend originality star a ghostly tale to scared lonely traver at night and that therefore no much history is abiliable.
